An unwritten rule of my job is to not play favorites with models. But it’s too hard not to get mesmerized by the preciousness of what I witnessed both times I shot Maria in Ukraine. She has an unquestionable talent at expressing her sensuality, but this is true of most models. It’s their job, after all. Maria is special though because she is going through the phase in which she is suddenly discovering that she is really good at this, and therefore carries an enthusiasm which is profoundly infectious. I simply couldn’t get enough of shooting her.

One shouldn’t play favorites with models but when I met Maria in L’viv (Ukraine) I immediately knew that something special and memorable would come out from the encounter. It’s one thing to meet a model to spend with her the agreed 2-3 hours and have a perfectly good professional relationship, while it’s a completely different story when the model is so enthusiastic about the idea of expressing herself through her body that she becomes basically unstoppable, and lets you be the witness of a transformation. I feel really privileged for having been one of the very first to do a nude shoot of Maria, and definitely the first one to explore her erotic side. In this mammoth of a shoot we used every corner and room of my quirky apartment, plus the public stairs that lead to it. Maria never wore any piece of clothing for the entire afternoon, and with her incredible energy and creativity with the poses, she made even a broken window and an old fridge be photogenic. And…don’t get me started with the videos!!
